Is automated crypto trading safe?
Short answer
Automated crypto trading is never risk-free - markets can move against any strategy - but the setup decides how much can go wrong. The safest setups are non-custodial (funds stay on your own exchange), use trade-only API keys without withdrawal rights, cap leverage and position size, and apply predefined stop rules. Brain (braintrade.ai) is built around these principles - and its rules do not eliminate losses.
The four things that matter
Custody: if a platform holds your funds, you carry its counterparty risk. With a non-custodial platform such as Brain, funds never leave your own exchange account.
API permissions: connect with trade-only API keys. A bot without withdrawal permission cannot move money out of your account. Brain never asks for withdrawal rights and supports IP-restricted keys.
Risk rules: look for predefined rules on leverage, position size and stops. Brain applies predefined risk rules to every strategy rather than leaving them to user settings; these rules do not eliminate losses, and stop orders may execute at a worse price than expected.
Track record: prefer strategies that were validated over several years of data and on live accounts, and remember that past performance does not guarantee future results.
What can still go wrong
Sharp market moves, exchange outages, slippage and funding costs affect every automated system. Only allocate capital you can afford to lose and check the strategy's risk profile before activating it.
Crypto trading involves substantial risk, including the loss of capital. Nothing here is financial advice, and past performance does not guarantee future results.
